Leeds West Indian Carnival
The Leeds Carnival is the second largest in the UK and the oldest in Europe and will be 45 years on August Bank Holiday Monday this summer (2012). It is a spectacular event with colourful dancers and loud music.
It has brought something of the old African culture which survived and combined with the European tradition of street carnival to create a special cultural event.
It is organised by the local community and attracts groups from all over the country. Participants and spectators come from all sections of society and it is avery friendly and welcoming event at whic I have never seen or heard of any problem in 8 years.
It is a joy to photograph with dancers always willing to pose for a portrait and then continue the parade, enabling action shots as well.
